National University Of Singapore Student Hostel

Enhancing focus and community through linear acoustic design.

The Challenge

Student hostels are high-traffic zones that need to balance social interaction with quiet study. The communal lounges at NUS faced issues with noise buildup, making them less effective for study and relaxation.

The Solution

We installed iMicro® Baffles in a linear arrangement across the ceiling. These vertically hung panels effectively trap sound from both sides, significantly reducing the reverberation time. Aesthetically, the baffles add a rhythmic, modern texture to the ceiling, defining the lounge zones while ensuring speech intelligibility remains high.
